Hun Sen Urges Action to Curb Bus Crashes
Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday urged tour bus operators to respect the traffic law following a recent spate of bus crashes that have killed Cambodians as well as foreign tourists. “Please, respect the land traffic law,” Mr. Hun Sen said during a speech at the inauguration of the newly renovated National Road 56 between Banteay Meanchey province’s Serei Saophoan City and Oddar Meanchey province’s Samraong City. “What I have noticed, and what has concerned me is that in the past year, and especially in the past few months, there has been an increase in road accidents involving big passenger vehicles and tourist buses,” Mr. Hun Sen said, warning that crashes would damage Cambodia’s economy. “It is a big disaster for the country’s economy, especially the tourism sector,” he said. …
